Basic Pistol and Extended SSF Course

WHERE: Penrose Park Recreation Center (blue building), 401 Park Place, Penrose, Pueblo Indoor Range: 3455 1/2 Nuckolls Ave. Pueblo, CO 81005.
WHEN: 23 May, 2026 for classroom, 24 May, 2026 for the range.
WHY: To teach Basic Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude Necessary for Owning and Using a Pistol Safely. This course meets State of Colorado Conceal Carry Permit and Specified Semiautomatic Firearm (SSF) requirements.

This course is composed of two segments:
Classroom 8 hours.
Range ~4 hours.
You will have use of the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Student Packet, consisting of the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Handbook (2019), NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program Booklet, and Gun Safety Rules Card. You may buy the packet for an additional $15. Range fees are covered.
You will need to bring:
Classroom: your own pistol, holster, magazines, no live ammunition, cleaning kit, notebook, pen/pencil.
Range: Bring your own pistol, magazines, ammunition (100+ rounds), safety glasses, hearing protection, hat, closed top shirts (keep the hot brass out), sturdy boots, water, snacks if desired. Keep your gun holstered or in a case until we get to the firing line.
You will be evaluated using NRA guidelines both in the classroom and the range:
Classroom: 50 question, multiple-choice and True/False, open-book test
Range: Level I certification, 10-foot range, 5 shots each in 4 targets (example attached, Red target is Level I)
